Usedom 1, mixed media on canvas, 50 x 60 x 2 cm
First - what is Usedom? Usedom is an island in north-eastern Germany where I live and like to be inspired by the sea. I have started a new series of paintings, again seascapes, which are expressive and created with different media. For this first painting I held back and only structured the clouds. For this I used a light structure paste and shaped the clouds with spatulas and a small spoon. I applied real beach sand with a transparent drying gloss gel for the beach area. For acrylic paints I used the colors Sand, Powder Blue, Phthalo Blue, Peach, Cerulean Blue, Prussian Blue Hue, Medium Grey and Naples Yellow.

Usedom 2, mixed media on canvas, 50 x 60 x 2 cm
I started working on the painting in 2019 and I didn't take any photos of the individual work steps at the time. Usedom 2 is the second painting in the series - Usedom. The series will not be very big, maybe 2 or 3 more paintings. In any case, all paintings have one thing in common: they are mixed media paintings, made with strong acrylic paints and modeling paste, which of course show seascapes. I have a reference photo for every painting - and I'm sure I've already taken hundreds of photos. In contrast to the first painting it is less the beach that is shown here, but more the water and the breaking of the waves. I used the following colors: Titanium White, Medium Grey, Sand, Powder Blue, Peach, Phthalo Blue, Chromium Oxide Green, Deep Turquoise, Prussian Blue Hue and Cerulean Blue.

Usedom 3, mixed media on canvas, 50 x 60 x 2 cm
With Usedom 3, the "Usedom" series continues. I don't know when the series will be finished. A winter landscape can be seen for the first time, with ice/snow on the groynes and on the beach. I had to lower the horizon line because I had put too much modeling paste below the previous horizon line. As a result, the island of Oie has become much larger than expected. As last step I added sea fog that appears behind the island and touches it at its sides - the beginning of enclosing it. I used the following colors: Sand, Naples Yellow, Peach, Powder Blue, Medium Grey, Cerulean Blue, Prussian Blue Hue.
